Quantitative Genetics of a Hybrid Population of Eucalyptus nitens × Eucalyptus globulus: Estimation of Genetic Parameters and Implications for Breeding Strategies

چکیده

In Chile, interspecific hybrids between Eucalyptus nitens × globulus (GloNi) were developed by Arauco Forestry to capture specific traits from each parental species: growth rate and cold resistance E. (NIT) wood properties (GLO). Field tests of distributed in two geographic zones: (12 tests) Valdivia (15 tests), where measurements recorded at different ages. The hybrid population is composed clones 28 full-sib families, being the result crossing 12 females 8 males. Progeny these families vegetatively propagated tested on zone, with a total 1214 developed. quantitative genetic parameter estimates reveal high variation volume gain properties, which make possible large all analyzed. Additionally, has considerable impact hybrid, making it important test more parents future crosses both zones. contrast, demonstrated zero volume. traits, zone demonstrates effect variability traits; meanwhile, contributed roughly similar amounts variation. General Hybridizing Ability (GHA) Combining (GCA) relationship progeny pure species performance indicates that could be selected for based results properties.

Wound wood formation in Eucalyptus globulus and Eucalyptus nitens: anatomy and chemistry

The wound-associated wood that developed 17 months following artificial xylem injury in Eucalyptus globulus (Labill) and Eucalyptus nitens (Maiden) was examined anatomically and chemically. This new tissue located immediately adjacent to the wound site and termed “wound wood” was highly variable consisting of callus, altered wood of increased parenchyma density, and dark extractives, visible to...

Exploration of genetic architecture through sib-ship reconstruction in advanced breeding population of Eucalyptus nitens

Accurate inference of relatedness between individuals in breeding population contributes to the precision of genetic parameter estimates, effectiveness of inbreeding management and the amount of genetic progress delivered from breeding programs. Pedigree reconstruction has been proven to be an efficient tool to correct pedigree errors and recover hidden relatedness in open pollinated progeny te...

Leaf water relations of Eucalyptus globulus ssp. globulus and E. nitens: seasonal, drought and species effects.

In August 1990, a 2-ha plantation was established in an area where rainfall (about 515 mm year(-1)) was insufficient to meet evaporative demand. On nine occasions between September 1991 and April 1993, pressure-volume curves were constructed for irrigated and rainfed Eucalyptus globulus ssp. globulus Labill. and E. nitens (Deane and Maiden) Maiden trees. During the experiment, rainfed trees exp...

Eucalyptus Globulus

"The authentic facts, relating to the remarkable power of the Eucalyptus Globulus in drjing marsh lands and rendering them healthy, are such as to deserve serious and general attention. It appears to be certain that where the Eucalyptus prospers intermittent fever disappears. This tree grows with incredible rapidity, absorbs ten times its own weight of water in twentyfour hours, and spreads thr...

Genetic Control of Heterochrony in Eucalyptus globulus

A change in the timing or rate of developmental events throughout ontogeny is referred to as heterochrony, and it is a major evolutionary process in plants and animals. We investigated the genetic basis for natural variation in the timing of vegetative phase change in the tree Eucalyptus globulus, which undergoes a dramatic change in vegetative morphology during the juvenile-to-adult transition...
